Recent SILS graduate Sara Mannheimer has been appointed the new curator at Dryad Digital Repository, following the departure of Elena Feinstein in July. During her time as the interim curator, Mannheimer has already worked on Dryad’s draft preservation policy, sharing an award with doctoral student Ayoung Yoon for a poster outlining the policy’s creation presented at the annual ASIS&T meeting in Montreal.

Angela Murillo presents Poster in Albuquerque
SILS Doctoral student Angela Murillo presented a poster entitled “Data Sharing and Reuse in the Sciences: An Investigation of Selected Cyberinfrastructure and Interoperability Elements” at the DataONE All-Hands meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico on October 22, 2013. The poster outlined the preliminary research for Ms. Murillo’s dissertation, which will focus on elements that facilitate or interfere with data sharing and reuse within the DataONE environment.
Dryad Poster wins ASIS&T Prize
The poster “Developing Preservation Policy for Dryad Digital Repository,” created by interim Dryad Curator Sara Mannheimer and SILS Doctoral student Ayoung Yoon has won a “Best Poster” prize at the 2013 annual ASIS&T meeting in Montreal, Canada. The poster described the efforts of the Dryad preservation working group in creating a draft preservation policy for the Dryad Digital Repository. The policy is an important step in Dryad’s digital preservation mission, and the draft will be presented to the Dryad Board of Directors in November.
7th Metadata & Semantics Research Conference
The 7th Metadata & Semantics Research Conference (MTSR 2013) is currently running in Thessaloniki, Greece. The proceedings have already been posted online through Springer, and abstracts and papers are available for download.

Dr. Jane Greenberg named NCDS Data Fellow
Dr. Jane Greenberg, director of the Metadata Research Center, has been named a 2014 Data Fellow by the National Consortium for Data Science. The fellowship will support Dr. Greenberg’s Metadata Capital Initiative, a project intended to help formulate and discover methods for assessing the ‘value’ of metadata, and how that value changes over time.
