Jeremy Leipzig: Reproducible Research Tools Presentation

On October 25th, Jeremy Leipzig, Software Developer and IS PhD student presented research to the Drexel GIS Users Group about Reproducible Research Tools, including:

– Software dependency management using Conda
– Pipeline frameworks Snakemake and Nextflow
– Quilt “data as a dependency” framework
– Live web-enabled Jupyter notebooks with Binder

The First Annual Alice B. Kroeger Spotlight on STEM Librarianship Event

Drexel’s Metadata Research Center, The University of Pennsylvania’s Biomedical Library, the Drexel University Library, and Archives Student Association, and the Philadelphia chapter of the Special Libraries Association are co-hosting the first annual Alice B. Kroeger Spotlight on STEM Librarianship event. The event includes a panel presentation on STEM librarianship, a tour of the Biomedical Library’s 3D Printing Laboratory, and a light reception.

Metadata at the Mütter Museum

As part of Archives Month in Philly, the Historical Medical Library of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia are hosting a special pop-up exhibit entitled
From Oyntments & Salves to Kotex & Pills.” MRC Graduate Research Assistant and LEADS Project Manager Carly Schanock created metadata for the exhibit, determining structure and meaning through the creation of labels.

The limited exhibit runs from 5:30-7pm on Tuesday, October 9th, at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
