Topic: Metadata research at Tsukuba – Metadata Permanence, Cultural Heritage and Pop-Culture
Abstract:This talk will overview recent research activities at Shigeo Sugimoto’s laboratory. The topics will be:
(1) Longevity of metadata mainly and a provenance description model for metadata schema.
(2) A metadata model for digital archives of cultural heritage objects, mainly from a viewpoint of South/Southeast Asia.
(3) Some projects on metadata for Japanese pop-culture contents (Manga, Anime and Game). Manga is the main topic.
Bio: Dr. Sugimoto is an leader in the international iSchool community, and a Professor in the Graduate School of Library, Information and Media Studies at the University of Tsukuba, Tskuba, Japan. He is also a member of the Governing Board of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative. Dr. Sugimoto’s research spans digital libraries, metadata, and preservation. He investigates metadata as a key component of information and knowledge infrastructures in the networked information society. His research topics include models and technologies, and metadata schemas for digital resources and digital archives. Dr. Sugimoto is also a lead professor at the Research Center for Knowledge Communities (RCKC).
