Jane Smith, one of the graduate Metadata Research Center research assistants, recently completed an internship with the Policy and Standards Division at the Library of Congress. Under supervisor Geraldine Ostrove, LC Senior Policy Specialist, Jane worked on the development of the Library of Congress Medium of Performance Thesaurus (LCMPT).
A joint Library of Congress and Music Library Association project, the LCMPT will be used to retrieve music by its medium of performance in library catalogs, and to record the element “medium of performance” of musical works, as represented in individual music resources cataloged according to RDA: Resource Description and Access and linked data methods. The LCMPT project will be published on the Web and will be compatible with Semantic Web standards.
During her time in DC, Jane gave a presentation titled “The Library of Congress Medium of Performance Thesaurus: Deployment through the Open Metadata Registry.”
More information about the LCMPT project can be found on the Library of Congress Cataloging and Acquisitions Web site.
